In the following conversation, A and B are talking about a common acquaintance, Funakoshi. In line 11, B shifts to the plain style. First, translate each line into English. Then explain how Hasegawa (Chapter 22) would explain this shift.

A:男、64歳
B:女、37歳

1. A: あのぉ、船越の息子がね、彫刻家なんですよ。
2. 桂(かつら)って名で。
3. たぁいへん人気のある。
4. B: へえぇ、そうなんですか。
5. 日本画ですか、その方(かた)。
6. A: いえいえ、彫刻家です。
7. 楠(くす)でね。
8. B: 楠の木彫りですか。
9. A: 楠で、人体彫ったり、顔彫ったりする。
10. 楠だけなんですよ。
11. B: ほぉ、なんで、そんなに楠にこだわるんだろ。
12. A: 楠って、ほら、すべすべして、不思議な感触があるでしょ、あれ。
13. B: あぁ、そうなんですか。
